This afternoon in Grimbergen, the Raymond Goethals Trophy and the Dominique D'Onofrio prize were awarded for best coach and rookie in the Jupiler Pro League. Coach Nicky Hayen and Joaquin Seys are the 2024 laureates.
Trophy Raymond Goethals
Every year, the best Belgian coach is honored during the presentation of the Raymond Goethals Trophy, named after the legendary ex-coach and trainer of Marseille, with whom he won the Champions League, among others.
Nicky Hayen, who took over from Ronny Deila in March this year, will be rewarded for winning the 19th national title at Club. He is continuing that good line even now with 11 unbeaten matches in a row and a fine campaign in Europe where Club is almost certain of the next round.
After Michel Preud'homme and Philippe Clement, Hayen is the third Club Brugge coach to win the trophy.
Dominique D'Onofrio Prize
For several years as well, the best debutant at the highest level is awarded the Dominque D'Onofrio Prize.
Youth product Joaquin Seys becomes, after Charles De Ketelaere, the second Bruges winner of this prize. Seys was dropped into the starting lineup during the supercup after a strong preparation and did not give that place away. He scored his first goal for Club in the season opener against KV Mechelen and was not off the mark at European level either. It earned him a first selection with the Red Devils. Now he can also call himself the best debutant in the Jupiler Pro League.
