Reactions after Anderlecht - Club

Jupiler Pro League

Brandon Mechele: "Tough afternoon for us"

It was not a very joyous Mechele after the game, despite the win. "This was not a good game from our part. There were too many moments where we lacked intensity and aggressiveness. We lost too many duels for the second ball, which meant it was a tough afternoon for us. But we win and take the three points home, that's the most important thing."

The reason for the today's win was the strong first half, says the defender. "We were quite efficient today. In the second half we barely created any danger, but we have the win so we keep putting Union under pressure" The defender is looking forward to the last match of the season. "It's been a long and hard season. We are at the end of our rope."

Romeo Vermant: "Anderlecht ligt mij wel"

Romeo Vermant was named Man of the Match after scoring and providing an assist against Anderlecht. "If you score five in the previous games that I played against Anderlecht, then you can say that I like playing against them."

Looking at Vermant's recent performances and form, it's clear that he was ready to play again next week, but because of his third yellow card in the Play-Offs, he has to sit that game out. "I'm very much annoyed that I'm banned next week. I don't think I did anything wrong." Vermant said that he missed having the fans in the stadium, so he's very much looking forward to next Sunday. "It's a pity that we had to play this game without our fans. I can't wait to end the season with them next week."

Hans Vanaken: "We are only focussing on the title race"

With another goal Hans Vanaken contributed to the 1-3 win at Anderlecht. "The result is good, but our second half was not", the captain said after the game. "We didn't control the game like we are used to."

"Just before the break, they pull one back, which makes it different for us when we head towards the dressing room", he analyses. "You could tell it gave them confidence for the second half, but we defended quite well, apart from a few moments." With his goal Vanaken doubled the lead for Blauw-Zwart. "That goal was the result of a good attacking move from out part. Hugo wanted to collect the ball, but missed and so it ended up in my feet and I had all the time to pounce it home. The second half saw a few of those opportunities as well, but we didn't do enough then. For today we're just happy with the three points."

It's going to be a very intens last game when Club entertains Antwerp. "You can't just give up. You never know what Gent might do against Union. We've done quite well the past few weeks by not letting Union go. If we could add three points next week then we will have gathered 25 points out of 30, which is not bad."
