On Sunday, 1 February, the top clash away at Union is scheduled. You can read everything about the match in the Club Facts.
The match
This will be the 99th First Division duel between the two teams! The previous 49 away matches against the Brussels side ended in 13 wins (most recently 1–2 on 21/04/2024), 9 draws (most recently 0–0 on 27/04/2025) and 27 defeats (most recently 2–1 on 05/11/2023). Since les Unionistes returned to the Jupiler Pro League in 2021, Club have lost only once in 8 matches at the Duden Park (4W, 3D): a 2–1 defeat in November 2023.
This season, the two teams have already faced each other twice:
The very first official match of the 2025–2026 season was the Belgian Super Cup. Cup winners Club Brugge won 1–2 away at champions Union SG. Franjo Ivanović opened the scoring, but Christos Tzolis and Hans Vanaken turned the game around before half-time (1–2). In October, Union visited the Jan Breydel Stadium in the Jupiler Pro League. Club managed to beat the Brussels side at home again for the first time in seven matches. The final score was 1–0, thanks to a goal from Carlos Forbs.
Club Brugge’s top scorers are Christos Tzolis and Romeo Vermant, both with seven goals. With 10 assists, Tzolis is the assist king in the Jupiler Pro League. This is a clash between the two highest-scoring teams in the First Division: Club Brugge (42 goals) and Union SG (37 goals).
Simon Mignolet made a successful comeback on Wednesday against Olympique de Marseille. The goalkeeper from Limburg could make his 300th appearance for Club Brugge on Sunday! The only goalkeepers who played more matches for Club are Dany Verlinden (570), Fernand Boone (416) and Birger Jensen (394).
Club will still be without Joel Ordóñez, who is serving the second and final match of his suspension.
The opponent
Both teams were successful this week on the final matchday of the Champions League league phase. Union SG defeated Italian side Atalanta BC thanks to a goal by Anan Khalaili. The Brussels team finished with 9 points, narrowly outside the top 24, and were eliminated. Union are, however, still active in the Belgian Croky Cup, having eliminated FCV Dender in the quarter-finals. In the semi-finals, they will face Sporting Charleroi over two legs, the team that eliminated the Blues.
In the Jupiler Pro League, Union SG have been league leaders continuously since the end of August. At home, Union remain unbeaten (9W, 1D) and have conceded only two goals. However, they face Club Brugge, the team that has scored the most goals (19) and collected the second-most points (19 out of 33) in the competition.
Union won only two of their last seven league matches (4D, 1L). They are, however, unbeaten at home in the JPL since early March 2025. Their last home defeat dates back to 16 February, when they lost 0–1 to YR KV Mechelen.
With Promise David (9 goals), Union has the top scorer of the JPL in their ranks. Union’s leading assist providers are Christian Burgess, Raul Florucz, Ousseynou Niang, Rob Schoofs, Kamiel Van De Perre and Adem Zorgane, each with three assists. Union have kept 11 clean sheets this season, the best total in the league.
Union cannot count on Kamiel Van De Perre, who is suspended. Forward Kevin Rodríguez is also unavailable due to injury.
